A Garage Storage Solution That Actually Works

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

Quite often people do come across practical ideas of making things for the convenience of all. Things like this makes life simpler for me, and when I find something that really works well, I like to pass that information along to other people.

Recently, I came across a product that really made sense and helped me with a huge problem around my home, which is storage. If you are like me, my garage seems to be the catchall area for everything and anything. Somehow or the other, items like shovels, hoses, rakes and oil cans etc. seem to get dumped there without anybody’s knowing it. Of course, glass shelf are the answer here. I have shelves installed on the walls, but most of the time, they seem to do more to get in the way than they help as I have limited space in the garage and the shelves only make it more difficult to move around the cars.

I ran across a new aluminum folding shelf, which is one of the best storage solutions I have found in a long time. You can fold up the aluminum shelf against the wall when not in use I have found myself in many situations where I have to move things around just to be able to get objects out of the normal shelving units to move the lawn mower or some other object out of the way just to be able to get something done. These shelves just fold up to give a person the clearance you need to move things around easily.

The installation of these shelves in the garage proved so helpful that I didn’t take long to have an additional one for an enclosed motorbike enclosure. It’s quite a hassle dealing with the trailer shelves as they come in the way while loading or unloading. With these shelves, I unload the motorcycle, drop the shelves down and I now have storage space when I need it. Now, there is not clutter on the floor of the trailer and no strain of shifting things all around, like it was earlier.

Decorate Your House With Seagrass Rugs

Friday, October 30th, 2009

Seagrass rugs can add a touch of versatility to any room! Kept in their natural state, seagrass rugs have a wonderful, warm hue that will compliment any room. This style of rug is very popular with interior designers. These rugs are made strong and are made to withstand heavy traffic so no matter where you decide to put them, they will hold up for many years to come. More and more business owners are purchasing seagrass rugs not only because they hold up so well but because they are environmentally friendly.

Seagrass is not actually a grass but rather a flowering plant that grows in shallow waters where it can get plenty of sunshine. Most seagreass comes from the coastal areas of India and China; however the coast of Florida also has a large area where it grows. Seagrass rugs are stain resistant and are easily wiped or shaken clean, which makes them a great buy if you have children or pets. They have a naturally smooth texture and a sheen quality. Because seagrass rugs have a smooth finish, they are not recommended for stairs. Some manufacturers will add a foam backing to prevent slippage. The color of seagrass rugs ranges from light brown to olive green. Fiber thickness varies so check for thickness before you made your purchase.

Natural seagrass rugs are a great choice if you are looking to create a healthy home atmosphere as they do not contain any harmful chemicals like many of the traditional carpeting does. Even doctors are recommending seargrass rugs for those with allergies and others who are sensitive to chemicals.

If you purchase seagrass rugs online look for a reputable dealer who has been in business for several years and who only uses all natural border materials like cotton and wool. And don’t forget to check their return and shipping policies before ordering.

Decorating your home with seagrass rugs is an affordable way to not only help the environment but to help keep you and your family healthy as well.

Different Air Compressor Types

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

Reciprocating Air Compressor

A reciprocating compressor is made up of a cylinder and a piston. These types of compressors work by positive displacement which means that they increase the pressure of the air by reducing its volume. Air is admitted into a cylider where it is raised to a higher pressure by the movement of the piston higher into the cylinder.

The piston and cylinder may be air cooled or water cooled. Water cooling is used on larger and more expensive units. This cooling action is important to increase compressor life and to keep maintenance and repairs low.

Multiple stage compressors have two pistons. The first stage compresses the gas to an intermediate pressure. The gas is then cooled before it enters the second stage which raises the pressure higher. Two stage units are more efficient and have cooler operating levels, which increases compressor life.

A consumer type small air compressor has a useful life of about 1,000 hours.

Rotary Screw Air compressor

A rotary screw compressor uses the rotation of two close fitting helical-lobe rotors that turn in synchronous mesh to produces a series of volume-reducing cavities. Gas is drawn in through an inlet port in the casing, captured in a cavity, and then compressed as the cavity reduces in volume. The compressed gas is then discharged through an outlet port.

In lubricated units oil is injected into the cylinder where it both lubricates and cools. The oil film also forms a seal to reduce back slippage of the compressed air. On non-lubricated types, timing gears are used to drive the rotors and multistaging is necessary to prevent gas temperatures from going too high. No portable air compressor for consumer use is rotary type.

Centrifugal Air Compressor

Centrifugal compressors produce high-pressure discharge by dynamic displacement. The compression action is accomplished when the gas enters a chamber with a rapidly spinning impeller. The gas is accelerated as it flows in an outward direction. This gas velocity is then transferred into a pressure rise and then to the output port. No small portable air compressor uses this method.

One of the drawbacks of this type of compressor is its inability to deliver part-load flow at overall efficiencies as high as other types of compressors. Many people consider the centrifugal machine a base-load machine. Centrifugal compressors are usually designed for higher capacity uses because flow through the compressor is continuous and not well regulated.

Tips Concerning Hemorrhoid Home Treatment

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

One of the commonest infirmities in the human population is that of hemorrhoids.  Home treatment of the condition is the hottest strategy of dealing with it, mostly thanks to the embarrassment that people associate with hemorrhoids.  They can really be treated at home, in most cases with major success.

The body is a busy traffic map of veins, as every aspect about our body is dependent on blood flow.  Almost all of the time these vessels work constantly with little recognition or consideration by the individual of the process taking place.  From time to time, however, a glitch occurs in the ordinary process that results in weakened walls of the blood vessels, at last developing a bulge.  The condition is often attributed to heredity, but in the case of piles, may also be caused by our diet and our natural bodily functions.

Arteries that span in and round the anus are at the mercy of developing bulges, more commonly known as piles. These vein lumps can occur inside or outside the body and can happen to nearly anybody of any age though older people, pregnant women, heredity and chronic trots or diarrhea are likely candidates of the condition.  The appearance of hemorrhoids can create a spread of symptoms, from mild discomfort and itching to discomfort and bleeding depending on the scale of the bulging.

For most who are suffering from a hemorrhoid, home treatment is preferred as it is discreet.  The best treatment is to change the situation that was the cause of piles in the first place when possible. Straining while having a bowel movement, the result of hard stools, is a common root of the development of hemorrhoids, so changes in the diet that include more fluids, essential fats and more soluble fiber can make going easier.  Lubricating the anal sphincter before going by using a little petroleum jelly will also make the process less stressful.

Itching is a common complaint with piles. There are a number of creams, gels and ointments on the pharmacy shelves that can ease this itching which, if indulged by the victim, could cause an infection.  Dabbing external hemorrhoids with a cotton ball soaked in witch hazel is extremely helpful, since the substance causes veins to shrink down.

Other elements to prevent further recurrences are losing weight, no heavy lifting, taking the pressure from the area that gravity creates by resting and also soaking your bottom in plain warm water.

When it comes to treating a pile, home treatment using one of these tips is the preferred methodology. Remember, however, that any blood in the stool shouldn’t be ignored and requires a doctor’s attention.

The History of Goebel Figurines

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

Like so many innovative and lucrative ideas the M. I. Hummel line of Goebel figurines started off simply with one person’s passion. Sister Maria Innocentia Hummel, a Franciscan Sister, was also a gifted artist. She loved making drawings of country children. She eventually had the drawings printed as art cards. Goebel, a porcelain manufacturer in Germany took note of the art cards in the 1930s. The world was in political turmoil and Franz Goebel felt lovers of porcelain works would respond to Sister Hummel’s innocent theme. Sister Hummel worked hand in hand with Goeble overseeing her artwork as each artistic endeavor was turned into beautiful porcelain figurines. She would personally approve each and every porcelain piece. The Hummel line of Goebel figurines were an immediate success in Europe. It didn’t take long for these pieces to attract the attention of American soldiers stationed in Germany.

First established in 1871, Goebel started out by making children’s marbles and slate pencils. Even though the owners’ vision always included porcelain figurines, they lacked the money to produce them. Eight years later, the owners fired up their first kilns and produced dinnerware and Goebel figurines. But it was the Hummel figurines that changed Goebel history and helped make them the huge company they became.

Unfortunately Sister Hummel met an early death due to tuberculosis in 1937 at the age of 46. She was a prolific artist and had created art cards that Goebel continued to use. The company worked with an Artistic Board at the convent where Sister Hummel lived to ensure that her vision continued to flourish through their Hummel line of Goebel figurines.

If you’re lucky you can still find some of these amazing Goebel figurines at auctions and yard sales. Check the bottom as there are definitive identification marks. Most figurines will include Sister Hummel’s signature and a Goebel trademark. Some also include a mold number.

how to make money online

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

I’ve just published an article called How I make Money Online, at Hubpages http://hubpages.com/hub/How-I-Earn-Money-Online, to share with everyone how i earn my living as a writer. The article mainly talks about how to join Hubpages and what the benefits are of doing so. I found Hubpages a really easy way to get into earning money on line because of several reasons:

It’s free to join and to start up your own Hubpages online business.

I get to choose what I write about, so I can write stuff that interests me.

All the techy stuff is done for you, so you don’t have a bewildering learning curve that results in you making a lot of mistakes right off.

Ok, Hubpages takes a share of the revenue, they get 60% and you get 40%, but I think that’s fair for all the help and support you get.

Support - all the other Hubbers as we’re called are really helpful in sharing information.

I also wrote in this article about how to get jobs as a freelance copywriter online. I work as a freelancer through EU Freelance, a site where buyers post jobs, and you get to bid for those jobs. So far It’s worked really well for me, but you have to be careful. Never give away a free sample of your work to anyone, as people asking for freebies are ususally scammers. Thoroughly check how much you will get for each article - $2 for 100 words is OK, for 1000 words is rubbish. Once you win the bid, keep in touch with the buyer, at least daily, and ask lots of questions so that you’re clear what’s required. Make sure you meet the deadlines required.

Then just enjoy writing and being paid for your words!  Here are some other articles I’ve written http://hubpages.com/hub/Starting-a-small-business-The-Sory-of-The-Chocolate-Bar, about how to set up a small business, giving lots of tips about doing it, and about some of the pitfalls if you’re not careful.  I’m also a published author, having written two children’s books http://hubpages.com/hub/How-to-Publish-Your-Book.

Tips for better Use of a College Credit Card

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

There had always been days when you couldn’t buy things as a student because of lack of cash. Now you can purchase goods and services without necessarily having the cash. College and university students now have access to student credit cards. The lack of cash will no longer be a problem for students to buy something only when they have liquid cash. Ready money can no longer limit a student from buying something desired once he or she has applied for a credit card for students that will of course have to be approved first.

Tertiary institution students only, and not all people, get to be able to use college credit cards, and not just anyone. College credit cards are simply normal credit cards as any normal Citibank credit cards but for one or two. There is a limit on how much can be spent on the credit of the card monthly. These cards for students rarely go outside of the $500 - $1000 allowance. This limits college students to spend only what they can afford.

Although it checks a spending habits of a student, this tends to not allow students to buy things that they may really consider important. The common credit cards as a result look more attractive and most college students tend to long for it. For surety, parents can be asked to co-sign a student’s application for a credit card as a guarantee. Thus, the supplier has someone to hold on to in case the student should overspend. This puts the parents in the position of bearing the brunt of any failure of payment.

The application of wisdom on having a student credit card is a good idea. Care should be taken to not running into credit card debt end up having difficulty paying back. When you spend more than you can pay back you can only end up giving you a bad credit record. All you can achieve by this is getting yourself trouble with your spending in the future. Especially in emergencies, there are really very numerous plus points to having a college credit card, but there are also dangers associated with the use of it. Thus, it will be in your best interest to use your student credit card wisely.

Healthy Martial Artists

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

Keeping in shape is critical for your body’s wellness and one way you can do this is by training in tae kwon do. This sport is no caper you have to be in tip top condition to learn the varied tae kwon do moves. Many of which include you projecting your leg high above peoples heads.

A lot of taekwondo techniques are about hitting your opponent by using your legs it is only that today people started also utilizing their hands for self defense and to punch back. History of Taekwondo .Many of the moves included spin around kicks, flying kicks, open handed strikes, system of blocks and punches. Here are some Taekwondo pictures of these moves in action .

Since flexibility is one of the key of taekwondo, you will expect to be really flexible if you want to learn the extraordinary tae kwon do strikes. Stretches is one way to gain flexibleness and this is one key part in the training of taekwondo. One of the most fundamental movements is the side kick or back kick.

The sport is popular with both sexes and you may see that small children are also willing to discover this martial art. Tae kwon do believes that the leg is the most strategic weapon that a martial artist has and since it is the longest it has more prospects of striking the point compared to the hands.

One way in which the taekwondo student learns to master the use of his physical and mental strengths is by splitting of the wooden boards. This kind of power will demand the pupil to master a technique that fundamentally deals with concentration to focussing one’s strength enough to bust through a board. This manner is actually done utilising both the hands and legs of the student.

Olympic Taekwondo fighting is a bit different in that the feet and legs are applied nearly entirely with the fists playing modest roles such as blocking and setting-up kick points- almost the reverse of boxing. Fights are exciting to see as veteran fighters let loose with a flurry of kicks at seemingly unreal speed.

Considering a Holiday Computer?

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

This year a computer may be on your child’s most wanted gift list. Consider this a good investment if your school-aged child does not already have a computer; it has become essential for survival in school. Having a home computer changes everything. Reports can be typed and saved, research can be conducted at any time and children can communicate with others easily.

With all of that said, a computer can be a nightmare for parents who must monitor the Internet, control the instant messenger messages and allocate time slots for each sibling to have a turn. The computer has become what the TV once was: the most popular family possession that everyone needs, and no one is willing to compromise. This is causing great angst across the nation, as parents turn to the tech industry to solve the problem that the personal computer has created.

How do we censor content and allow the good information to come through?

The internet is a lot like New York City. There are very good places and very bad places. You wouldn’t let your child just roam the city freely. To varying degrees, almost all parents evaluate and monitor their children’s TV and movie choices. What about the computer? Part of the problem is that it is impossible for parents to monitor a child on the computer 24-7, yet some type of safeguards must be in place for computer use. What to do? There are three areas that parents need to make some wise choices, location of the computer, time for access and filtering devices.

Computers that are placed in the child’s bedroom are difficult to monitor. Children can access all kinds of unsavory websites and quickly click them away if a parent knocks on the door.

Also, the allure of the computer can displace sleep as the major event of the evening. Late at night, will you know if your child is logged on? Locate the computer in an area that everyone has easy access to and that you can watch.

Computers have an off switch. Children need to have limits placed on the access so that essential tasks like bathing and homework get done. The computer is enormously entertaining. Surfing the Web should not replace riding a bike or playing tag. Children need a balance - so do adults - to learn to survive and stay healthy.
